A day long Block Diwas program was held on Wednesday in Tehsil Gund of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. The main aim of the program was to adress the grievances of people of the area and find on spot solutions to solve them.
District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal was present as on the occasion along with senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal Khalil Poswal, DDC member of the area, BDC chairman Mohammad Rafiq, and various other district, block, tehsil level officers.
A large number of local people participated in the program while Panches, Sarpanches and prominent citizens of the area raised various local issues. Most of the speakers urged District Development Commissioner Ganderbal to ensure employement for local youth in ongoing Zojila Tunnel project.
Sarpanch Gund A, Zahoor Ahamd Tantray in his address raised concern about the slow progress of Degree College in the area and issue of Trauma hospital Gund. He appealed concerned authorities to provide the every required infrastructure that a Trauma hospital should have.
People of the area also raised demand for fencing for Upper Sindh Hydroelectric Power canal, as it remains a major threat to life and property of the people in the area.
District President Sarpanch Association Ganderbal, Nazir Ahmad Raina also spoke on the occasion and raised issues about the protection of various fish species in River Sindh. He said, “As construction of two tunnels is going on, one Z-Mohr at Gagangear and another at Zojila. The companies who are executing these tasks are dumping polluted water in River Sindh which is a danger for survival of various fish species”
District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal in his concluding remarks thanked people for participating in the huge number and ensured redressal of all the issues that are in his capacity in the coming time. He also distributed some cheques and documents of various schemes by different departments among the beneficiaries.
